Bob Griffiths

Bob has been actively coaching for 20 years. He was introduced to coaching through the inner game techniques of Timothy Gallway. He went on to adapt the techniques for use in business coaching. He subsequently trained with Coach U university and went on to run programmes to train coaches for companies such as Price Waterhouse Coopers. His work as a coach has been featured in the Sunday Times and Management Today and he makes regular appearances on radio and TV to talk about coaching. He recently co-authored a book on coaching "Grow your own carrot" based on the GROW process one of the most widely used coaching models. He has also developed Coach Master software. This is an online coaching model based on the GROW model which enables groups and individuals to connect and collaboratively solve problems over the internet.

Career background

After qualifying as a chartered accountant Bob worked extensively in the public and private sector. He then ran a successful business turning round companies who had run into financial difficulties. Through this work he realised that many of the issues that companies faced were not purely financial and required a more rounded approach. He then moved into coaching so he could deal with strategic, individual and interpersonal issues that needed addressing.

Recent examples

  • Coached a senior brand manager of a major pharmaceutical company. The issues were overwork, stress and a lack of strategic direction. The programme involved looking at his values, obtaining psychometric feedback and in depth interviews with his staff and others. A plan was constructed as a result of this which resulted in his changing his leadership style and the empowerment of his staff.
  • The HR director of a European subsidiary of a major telecoms company had to deal with winding up a subsidiary. Supported him through the process and as a result the programme was completed ahead of schedule.
  • Coached a senior manager of a large marketing organisation with an abrasive style. Agreed a plan for changing his behaviour and his style. As a result the manager was able to change his style and got very positive feedback.
