We have our own distinctive approach to role-play.
We believe role-play should spring naturally from an experience we create in the training room. Motivating this spontaneous reaction is at the heart of successful theatre and all forms of play, and indeed most learning. Ideally, participants should find themselves engaged in the exercise without any kind of formal introduction. This can be achieved by:
- Skilled facilitation around the way it is set up.
- Stimulating writing and programme design.
- Experienced, sensitive professional role-players.
- Careful 'stage management' - the orchestration of 'cues' and the physical surroundings.
We have a strong commitment to ensuring genuine learning through role-play, with views on how and when it is appropriate and how it should be deployed.
Creating a motivating, safe and open environment for delegates to share their experience is crucial. We ensure our actors are fully briefed, rehearsed and confident with both the issues and desired outcomes. We ensure that each participant is appropriately challenged in a positive environment and comes away with lessons learned. We also recognise that any group of people will embody a variety of responses to theatre-based interventions. We ensure that nobody feels excluded and that everyone can contribute in their own way.
Our actors are also excellent and experienced facilitators. They will often contribute not only 'in character' but also as an extra training resource. The effect of a team of people working together with the course participants maximises our influence and is an economic use of resources. When required we can provide role players with specific commercial or professional experience.
